Blanche's Quest for Knowledge
7-day event running May 26 - June 1, concurrent with Tokyo Go Fest. Rare Blanche-themed Lapras costume, Tapu Bulu + Tapu Fini raids, Mega Altaria + Mega Medicham, Larvitar tops the catch list.
Mega Tyranitar is the #1 Dark-type attacker (Bite + Brutal Swing) AND the #4 Rock-type (Smack Down + Stone Edge). Tyranitar itself ranks 62 in Master League. Highest-value catch of the event.
Mega Blastoise is the #4 Water-type attacker with Water Gun + Hydro Cannon. Blastoise itself ranks 33 in Great League and 19 in Ultra League. Solid all-around investment.
Rank 23 Great League, rank 3 Ultra League. Strong PvP staple. Also available as the Blanche-themed costume via GO Pass — that one is the visual reward of the event.
Alolan Ninetales ranks 60 Great League / 24 Ultra. Kingler with Bubble + Crabhammer is the 20th best Water-type attacker — a great budget option since it needs no legacy moves.
Both are Stardust-Boosted, yielding 750 dust per catch (7.5× normal). Star Pieces + a Mega + Pinap berries during a Lure makes for a solid dust farming window.
Sinistea has a 1% Antique form (one of the rarest variants in PoGO). Tandemaus's evolution Maushold has a 1% "Family of Three" form. Negligible meta value, but completionist gold.
| Slot | Day 1 Boss | Later Boss | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5★ Raids | Tapu Bulu | Tapu Fini | Tapu Bulu is dual usage: #19 grass attacker, #9 fairy attacker, ranks 88 Master League. Tapu Fini sees some Ultra/Master play but lower investment priority. |
| Mega Raids | Mega Altaria | Mega Medicham | Mega Altaria boosts Dragon + Fairy candy/damage; Altaria itself ranks 10 in Great League. Mega Medicham boosts Fighting + Psychic — solo-able for most trainers with the best counters. |
| Max Battles | Max Combee | Max Combee | Stardust-boosted — meaning catches give bonus dust. Worth running for the dust + Max Particles farm even without a dedicated team. |
| 5★ Shadow Raids | Shadow Cresselia | Shadow Cresselia | Ranks 44 in Ultra League. Worth catching for PvP if you got a Battle path commit from Choose Your Path — your extra Rocket Radars cash out here. |
The event GO Pass is added to your account automatically when the event goes live on May 26 at 10 AM. Free tier rewards:
- · Vaporeon + Larvitar encounters along the path
- · Blanche Lapras encounter (shiny-eligible, Team Mystic background)
- · Rank 10: +1 candy on Pokémon evolutions, increased Candy XL chance from evolutions (L31+ trainers)
- · Rank 20: 2× Incense duration — pairs with the heavy Incense spawn list for catch farming
Deluxe ($5) adds: second Blanche Lapras encounter, premium battle passes, Glacial Lure Modules. The second Lapras roughly doubles your odds at the shiny.
Points are uncapped from May 30 midnight through June 1 at 7:59 PM local. Combine with FastTrack Monday (June 1) for 2× points from past tasks — that 2-day window is when most players push rank 20+.
One of the best Candy XL farming windows of the event lands during the Friday inside the event (May 29). Friendship Friday bonuses for the season:
- · +1 bonus candy per trade
- · 2 guaranteed Candy XL per trade (instead of the normal 1)
- · Increased chance for Lucky Pokémon from trades
If you can stockpile 100 trade-eligible spares from the event catches and trade them on Friday, that's 200 Candy XL in one day — 2/3 of the 296 you need to max out any single Pokémon. Pair with Mega evolution of a same-typed Pokémon for even more candy per catch.
Combee runs all-day Max Battles, refreshing more frequently than usual. Combee is Stardust-Boosted (750 dust per catch), so this is one of the better days to burn Max Particles. Two extra reasons to grind it: (1) only female Combee evolves into Vespiquen, so check the symbol before powering up; (2) if you're a L76+ trainer chasing the "complete 100 Max Battles" gate, this is the day for it.
Tapu Fini takes over almost every gym for one hour. Not a top-tier raid pick on its own, but if you want the shiny or a hundo it's the densest possible window. Pair with a community ambassador meetup for a free remote raid pass on check-in.
Don't catch Staryu or Sableye encounters from field research tasks. Both are dust-boosted (750 base). If the pattern holds, June or July Community Day will run 3× catch dust. A banked Staryu cashed in then = ~2 250 dust per catch before Star Piece, and you can hold up to 100 tasks in the stack.
Glimmet has a small chance of appearing at the end of any route. Glimmora is currently the #10 Rock-type attacker and will be the #1 Rock-type the day its Mega launches. Daily routes also bank Zygarde cells — see the legendary how-to.
The Roar of Time Adventure Effect pauses Star Piece, Lucky Egg, regular Incense, and Daily Adventure Incense timers. If you're dust-grinding the wild spawns, fire it right before activating Star Piece so the 30-min window becomes a 60-min one.
Activating Ice Burn (White Kyurem) or Freeze Shock (Black Kyurem) gives a 1.5× or 1.25× catch multiplier respectively for ~30 minutes. If you autocatch the wild spawns via a GO Plus+ or GO Plus, this is the difference between catching a Larvitar at 30 % and bouncing at 60 %.
Every Tuesday during the event runs PokéStop Showcases. Winning rare-but-realistic categories outside busy city centers cashes in Lure Modules, Lucky Eggs, Incubators, and Star Pieces; 100 lifetime wins unlocks Professor Pikachu. See the full Showcase strategy.
Pinap doubles candy per catch; Silver Pinap multiplies by 2.34×. Mega-evolving a same-type Mega adds +1 candy per catch of that type. Best Mega for this event: Mega Sharpedo or Mega Gyarados (both cover Squirtle, Krabby, Horsea, Staryu, Lapras, Sableye, Clamperl, Galarian Zigzagoon).
▸When does Blanche's Quest for Knowledge run?
Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at 10:00 AM through Monday, June 1, 2026 at 8:00 PM local time. Runs concurrent with the in-person Tokyo Go Fest event.
▸How do I get the Blanche-themed Lapras costume?
Progress the event GO Pass. The free tier grants one encounter with Blanche Lapras (shiny-eligible, ships with the Team Mystic background). The $5 Deluxe Pass adds a second encounter. The GO Pass is added to your account automatically when the event starts.
▸Which Pokémon should I catch first?
Larvitar tops the list — Mega Tyranitar is the #1 Dark attacker in the game. Squirtle is second for Mega Blastoise. Lapras third for PvP. Stardust-boosted catches (Staryu, Sableye) are best paired with Star Pieces for a dust farming window.
▸Is the Deluxe GO Pass worth it?
Worth it if you want the second Blanche Lapras encounter (better odds at a shiny), premium battle passes, and Glacial Lure Modules. Glacial Lures give Eevee → Glaceon evolution and add Ice-type spawns to the lured PokéStop. Skip if you don't care about Blanche Lapras or you already have stockpiled Glacial Lures.
▸When are GO Pass points uncapped?
From May 30 at midnight through June 1 at 7:59 PM local time. Combine with FastTrack Monday (June 1) which gives 2× GO points from past tasks — that 2-day window is the highest-leverage time to push GO Pass rank.
▸Which raid should I prioritize?
Tapu Bulu has the best dual-usage profile (grass + fairy attacker + Master League rank). Mega Altaria is good if you want the candy/damage boost for Dragon + Fairy types or for Great League Altaria (rank 10). Mega Medicham is the easiest solo and gives raid resources. Shadow Cresselia is for PvP players or as a Shadow legendary tick-box.
▸How do I maximize Candy XL during the event?
Trade away spares instead of transferring. Each trade gives +1 candy and +1 guaranteed Candy XL this season. If you wait until Friday (Friendship Friday), you get 2 guaranteed Candy XL per trade. 100 trades on Friday = 200 Candy XL, which is 2/3 of the 296 you need to max out any Pokémon.
