DPS calculator

Quantitative PvE DPS for any attacker × moveset × defender combo. Uses the official PoGO damage formula with STAB, type effectiveness, weather, Mega, and Shadow modifiers. Output: DPS, TDO, survival time, and per-move breakdowns.

07 · THE FORMULA

per-hit damage = floor(0.5 × (Atk/Def) × power × STAB × type-eff × weather × mega × shadow) + 1

DPS = (fast-hits-per-cycle × fast-damage + charged-damage) / cycle-time

TDO = DPS × survival-time

STAB = 1.2× when move type matches attacker type. Type-eff per PoGO matrix (1.6 SE, 0.625 resisted, 0.39 immune). Weather = 1.2× when boosted type matches. Mega = +30% to teammates. Shadow = +20% attack / -16.7% defense. Defender Def is estimated from base stat; we don't simulate the boss's full moveset against you.

How DPS + TDO work in-game

DPS (damage per second) and TDO (total damage output) are the two numbers raid optimisers care about. This calculator runs the full formula — Attack × Move power × Type effectiveness × STAB × Weather × Mega boost × Shadow modifier — so you can pick the right counter for the right boss. See raid counters for pre-computed recommendations per boss.

How to use this calculator

1. Pick the attacker. Choose species + level. Level affects HP and Defence (survivability), not raw damage (which is move-based). L40 minimum for raid attackers; L50 for the top 1% only.

2. Pick the move pair. Fast move + charged move. Fast moves are evaluated by damage AND energy generation per turn — high-energy moves fuel the charged move faster, which usually wins out over raw fast-move damage.

3. Set the defender. Pick the raid boss or PvE target. Type, level, and weather get applied automatically. STAB and type effectiveness compute from the matchup.

4. Apply modifiers. Weather boost (1.2×), Mega in-party (+10% to other Mega-of-type, +30% to your own Mega), Shadow (+20% damage / +20% taken), Friend Boost (up to +20% damage at Best Friend).

5. Compare DPS + TDO. DPS = damage per second alive. TDO = total damage output. Use DPS for time-trial raids, TDO for legendary raids where survivability extends the damage window.

FAQ

What's the difference between DPS and TDO?

DPS = damage per second the attacker outputs while alive. TDO = total damage output across the attacker's entire lifespan against the boss. High DPS + low TDO = glass cannon (Mewtwo, Rayquaza); high TDO + lower DPS = bulky pick (Tyranitar, Garchomp). Best raid attackers balance both.

Does STAB really matter that much?

Yes. STAB (Same-Type Attack Bonus) adds +20% damage when the move type matches the attacker's type. A Dragon attacker using a Dragon move hits for 1.2× the base. Stack STAB with type effectiveness (2× super-effective) and weather (1.2×) and you can triple your output vs raw damage.

How much DPS does Shadow add?

Shadow attackers deal +20% damage but take +20%. Net effect on TDO is roughly +5-10% depending on the matchup — Shadow is a DPS-first pick where the boss can be downed before the squishier shadow dies. Always use Shadows in 6-trainer raids where the time-to-kill matters more than the survivability.

Why is my favourite mon ranked lower than expected?

Common reasons: (1) the fast move energy gen is too slow to fuel the charged move under raid time pressure, (2) STAB doesn't apply (typing mismatch), (3) the defender resists one or both move types. Always check the move-pair specifically — Mewtwo with Confusion + Psystrike outperforms Mewtwo with Psycho-Cut + Psystrike by a wide margin.
