How to beat raid bosses in Pokémon GO

To beat a raid boss, use Pokémon that hit it super-effectively (×1.6) and resist its attacks (×0.625). Hundo Hunter's raid counter pages rank the top 12 attackers per boss by total damage output × bulk.

Raids are cooperative boss battles at gyms — 1★ to 5★ tiers plus Mega and Elite. Each boss has fixed types + a moveset rotation. Beating a raid in the time limit (180s) requires the right attacking team.

The key formula: super-effective attacks deal 1.6× damage; resisted attacks deal 0.625× damage; immune (doubly-resisted) deal 0.39×. Stacking type advantages = the fastest way to clear a raid solo or duo.

01 · THE PROCEDURE
  1. 1Look up the boss's type weakness

Open the raid bossses page, find your target. The page lists the doubly-weak types (×2.56 damage), weak types (×1.6 damage), and resists. Pick attackers from the doubly-weak column first.

  2. 2Use the counter-ranking on Hundo Hunter

Every raid boss has a dedicated counter page (e.g. /raid/mewtwo) with the top 12 attackers ranked by total damage. The list factors in tier (PvP rank), STAB bonus, weakness multiplier, and moveset DPS.

  3. 3Build a 6-mons attacker squad

You enter a raid with 6 Pokémon. After your first dies, you cycle in the next. Run your single best attacker first, then 4-5 high-DPS picks, with 1 bulky pick at the back as insurance.

  4. 4Mega-evolve the right type before the raid

Mega-evolving a matching-type Mega gives every attacker on your team +10% damage during the 8-hour Mega window — +30% during raids themselves. This is the single biggest force-multiplier in PvE.

  5. 5Coordinate with raid party for bigger groups

For 5★ legendary raids, you typically need 3-6 players. Time-of-day-Discord coordination saves passes — make sure your raid lobby has enough damage before starting.

02 · TIPS + GOTCHAS
  • Always check the boss's charged-move pool — Articuno can have Ice Beam OR Hurricane, which changes counter recommendations dramatically.
  • Weather-boosted raids boost catch CP from L20 to L25 — same IVs, ~10% higher CP. The boss's attacks are also stronger.
  • After defeating the boss, you get Premier Balls + a guaranteed encounter. Use a Golden Razz Berry to maximize catch chance.
