How to use a Pokémon GO IV calculator
Enter your Pokémon's CP, HP, and stardust cost into the IV calculator. The calculator solves the CP formula backwards and returns every possible IV combination that matches — usually 1-2 candidates per catch.
Every Pokémon has hidden IVs in 0-15 range across Attack, Defense, and Stamina. The in-game appraisal system gives a rough rank, but for the exact IV values you need a calculator — or Hundo Hunter's iOS app, which reads appraisal bars automatically.
The IV calculator solves the formula: CP = floor((Atk_total × √Def_total × √Sta_total × CPM²) / 10). Given CP and HP, it tries every IV combination and returns the matches. Adding the Stardust cost narrows the level range, usually leaving 1-2 candidates.
- 1Open the Pokémon's detail screen and note the CP
The CP is the big number at the top. Required for the calculator.
- 2Note the HP value (small number above HP bar)
HP is shown as "X / Y" — use Y (max HP). The calculator uses HP to narrow IV candidates.
- 3Note the Stardust cost shown when you tap Power Up
Tap Power Up to see the dust cost. Don't actually power up — just note the cost and back out. The dust cost maps to a level range (50 dust = L1-2, 4 000 dust = L20, 10 000 dust = L40).
- 4Enter all three values into the calculator
Use Hundo Hunter's IV calculator at /iv. Pick the species, enter CP + HP + dust. The result is the full list of possible IV combinations.
- 5Power up once + recalc to narrow further
If you get multiple candidates, power up once (cheap at low levels) and recalc. The new CP + HP + dust will usually narrow to a single combo.
- ▸The in-game appraisal narrows IV ranges further — a "3-star" appraisal means at least one stat is 15. Combine with the calculator for fastest results.
- ▸Hundo Hunter's iOS app reads appraisal bars from screenshots or live OCR, so you skip the math.
- ▸After one power-up + recalc, candidates usually drop to 1. After two, always 1.
