Frigibax Community Day — the deep dive

One of the most important Community Days of the year. Glaive Rush is a top-tier Ice charged move; Baxcalibur is the most accessible Ice raid attacker that isn't Kyurem-fused; Mega Baxcalibur will be a top Ice Mega. Three weeks before GO Fest 2026 — perfect prep timing.

WHY THIS ONE MATTERS

Three reasons this is a top-3 Community Day of the year:

  1. 1. Baxcalibur is genuinely top-tier. The most accessible Ice attacker that isn’t fusion-locked Kyurem. Top-5 Ice overall. Many trainers will build the only real Ice team they ever have during this 3-hour window.
  2. 2. GO Fest 2026 is 3 weeks later. The raid roster is Dragon- and Flying-heavy: Rayquaza, Mega Garchomp, Mega Salamence, Yveltal. All take 2× from Ice. The CD is your prep window.
  3. 3. Future Mega Baxcalibur. Projected #2 Ice attacker overall and best Ice Mega when it eventually releases. Every Frigibax candy banked now compounds into a future top-tier Mega. See /unreleased-mega for the full upcoming-Mega list.
GLAIVE RUSH · THE EXCLUSIVE MOVE
Gym / Raid
105 power
Pure raw damage — sits in the top tier for Ice charged moves. Pairs with Ice Fang fast move for STAB stacking.
Trainer Battle (PvP)
90 damage
⚠️ Lowers opponent Defense by 1 stage on use — a debuff Ice rarely brings. Lets follow-up moves hit harder. Energy cost likely ~45-50 (TBC at release).

How to lock it in: Evolve Frigibax → Arctibax → Baxcalibur DURING the event window OR up to 5 hours after. After that the move is gone unless re-learned from an Elite Charged TM (rare). Bank candy for at least 2-3 evolutions during the event, then re-prioritize remaining evolutions for the post-event 5-hour grace window.

EVENT BONUSES — ALL 8 OF THEM
3× catch Stardust
On every catch during the 3-hour window — combine with Star Piece for ×4.5.
2× catch Candy
Frigibax candy stockpile multiplied — combine with Mega evolution bonus + Pinaps for huge totals.
2× Candy XL chance (L31+)
Only if you're Trainer Level 31 or higher. Baxcalibur needs 296 XL to L50 — this window matters.
Incense 3 hours
Standard Incense lasts the full event. Daily Adventure Incense excluded.
Lure Modules 1 hour
Double duration during the event AND attract more Frigibax than normal.
+1 Special Trade
Total 2 special trades that day (3 with Friendship Friday — June 19 is Friday).
50% Stardust on trades
All trade costs halved. Burn through your trade backlog.
Bonus snapshot encounters
Take snapshots during the event for a chance at extra Frigibax encounters.
ICE RAID META — WHERE BAXCALIBUR FITS
#1 Ice Attacker
Fusion-locked — requires Reshiram + Kyurem candy from raid hunts. Far reach for casuals.
#2 Ice Attacker
Fusion-locked — Zekrom + Kyurem candy. Same reach problem as White Kyurem.
#3-5 Ice Attackers (range)
After this CD, every trainer will have access. Best Ice attacker reachable without legendary fusion. The "Metagross" of Ice.
Projected Mega Baxcalibur
When the Mega releases, projected #2 Ice attacker overall and the strongest Ice Mega — every Frigibax candy banked now compounds.
PVP CONTEXT
Great League
Top 25 contender
Glaive Rush in PvP at 90 damage + Defense -1 to opponent is unusual for Ice. Baxcalibur has serviceable bulk + an Ice/Dragon dual STAB profile. Watch the Season 24 meta — could break the top 10 if a Fairy gets nerfed.
Ultra League
Top 30
Baxcalibur shines in ML and UL more than GL because of its base ATK stat. Pair with Outrage as the high-damage closer and Glaive Rush as the cycling spam move.
Master League
Niche but viable
ML is dominated by Crowned Zacian, Necrozma fusions, and Dialga forms. Baxcalibur can find niches in 1v1 swap scenarios but won't lead.
Specialty Cups
Strong pick
Whenever Dragon and Ice are both legal AND legendaries are banned, Baxcalibur is one of the top contenders. Pre-build for the cup before the meta tightens.
$1.99 SPECIAL RESEARCH TICKET — IS IT WORTH IT?

Verdict: yes for almost everyone. Half the ticket cost is recouped by the Premium Battle Pass alone. The rest is bonus.

3× Frigibax encounters (special background)
Each background-encounter has the boosted shiny rate. If your 30-encounter wild grind misses shiny, the 3 ticket encounters are insurance.
Additional Frigibax encounters via timed research
Extra catches without using passes or buying anything. Pure value-add.
1× Premium Battle Pass
$1.00 USD value at base price. Half the ticket cost recouped immediately.
1× Rare Candy XL
Roughly 0.5% of the 296 needed to max Baxcalibur — symbolic but nice.
3-HOUR PLAYBOOK + EXTENDED LURE WINDOW
14:00 → 14:30
Open with the $1.99 Special Research ticket. Get 3 background Frigibax + premium pass immediately. Set first Incense + Star Piece. Mega Evolve a Dragon or Ice Mega (Mega Salamence covers both; Mega Glalie works for Ice; future Mega Garchomp ideal).
14:30 → 15:30
Lure Module #1 placed at a high-traffic stop. Catch every Frigibax with Pinap (event 2× candy + Pinap 2× = 4× candy/catch). If you have spare passes from earlier days, raid the in-rotation 5★ (Zekrom day 12-15 etc.) for Sinnoh/Best-Buddy energy.
15:30 → 16:30
Second Incense + new Star Piece. Knock out any Field Research tasks with Frigibax encounters. By now you should have 6-10 background Frigibax. Save your two HIGHEST IV candidates for evolution to lock in Glaive Rush.
16:30 → 17:00
Final push. Evolve at least 2 Frigibax → Arctibax → Baxcalibur DURING the event to learn Glaive Rush automatically. If your candy count is < 100 per evolution, focus on catching not researching. Burn passes if shadow Dialga raid lobbies materialize.
17:00 → 21:00
Extended Lure window. Lure Modules placed in this period still attract Frigibax with boosted shiny rate. Daily Adventure Incense at 17:30 (Frigibax not boosted in DAI but possible).

FAQ
When is the Frigibax Community Day?
Saturday June 20, 2026 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM local time. Extended Lure window from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM where placed Lures continue attracting Frigibax with the boosted shiny rate. Special background Frigibax can appear in the wild AND from Field Research — no Special Research required to get the cosmetic.
Is the $1.99 Frigibax Community Day ticket worth it?
Yes for most trainers. You get 3 guaranteed Frigibax with special background, additional encounters via Timed Research, 1 Premium Battle Pass ($1.00 standalone), and 1 Rare Candy XL. The Premium Pass alone covers half the cost — the rest is value. Skip only if you can't play during the event window.
What is Glaive Rush and how strong is it?
Glaive Rush is the Community Day exclusive charged attack. In gyms and raids it's 105 power — top tier for Ice charged moves. In PvP it deals 90 damage AND lowers the opponent's Defense by 1 stage, which is a rare debuff for Ice-type movesets. Combined with the existing Outrage and Avalanche options, Baxcalibur becomes a dual-threat attacker with situational debuff utility.
How does Baxcalibur stack up against the best Ice attackers?
White Kyurem (#1) and Black Kyurem (#2) are the absolute kings, but both are fusion-locked and require legendary Kyurem + Reshiram or Zekrom raid candy. Baxcalibur is the #3-#5 Ice attacker AND the most accessible — every trainer with a few hundred Frigibax candy can max one. It also evolves into Mega Baxcalibur eventually, which is projected as the #2 Ice overall and the strongest Ice Mega.
Should I save Frigibax candy for Mega Baxcalibur?
Yes — and this is the strongest argument for going hard on the CD. The Mega Baxcalibur release date hasn't been announced, but every Mega in Pokémon GO eats Mega Energy + a baseline of candy. Stockpiling 600-800+ Frigibax candy on June 20 is the most efficient prep window before the eventual release.
How does this fit with GO Fest 2026 (July 11-12)?
Directly. GO Fest 2026 has a Dragon-heavy and Flying-heavy raid roster: Rayquaza, Mega Garchomp, Mega Salamence, Yveltal. All take 2× damage from Ice. Baxcalibur is the most accessible Ice attacker for those raids if you don't have Black/White Kyurem. Investing on June 20 is 3 weeks of prep time — exactly the right window. See /global-go-fest-2026/power-up for the broader power-up plan.
How many Baxcalibur should I aim for?
Six for a raid party (one full team), or twelve if you want to dual-Mega (one team to lead, one to clean up after Mega Energy is spent). PvP: build one Great League version + one Ultra League version. Total target: 6-14 evolutions, depending on how seriously you raid. At 100 candy per evolution + ~50 catches per Baxcalibur, you need ~14,000-30,000 candy worth of grinding. The 2× catch + Pinap math says that's ~50-100 catches per Baxcalibur — feasible in 3 hours with a good Lure spot.
Is shiny Frigibax worth chasing?
Yes — Frigibax has only appeared in research breakthroughs and 10-km eggs outside of this Community Day. Shiny rate jumps from 1-in-512 to roughly 1-in-25 during the event. Special background AND shiny is the dream double. Bring at least 30 Pinaps and grind through encounters efficiently.
What special trade strategy makes sense?
June 19 is Friday — Friendship Friday gives +1 special trade and 2 guaranteed XL Candy per trade. June 20 (the CD itself) gives another +1 special trade and 50% reduced Stardust on trades. Total: up to 4 special trades over the two days at half Stardust. If you have lucky-eligible trades or want to lock in high-IV Frigibax through trade, this is the cheapest 2-day window in months.
