CATCH

What is Catch Rate in-game?

The probability a thrown ball catches the target. Modified by ball type, throw, curveball, berries, medals, and level.

DEFINITION

The probability a thrown ball catches the target. Modified by ball type, throw, curveball, berries, medals, and level.

01 · FULL EXPLANATION

Every species has a base catch rate (50% for common mons, 2% for legendaries). The actual per-throw success chance multiplies that base by ball type (Poké=1, Great=1.5, Ultra=2), throw quality, curveball, berries, friendship, and medals.

Higher-level wild mons are harder to catch (a L30 Pikachu vs a L5 Pikachu has a ~halved catch rate). Weather-boosted catches are L25+ minimum, making them harder.

Hundo Hunter's catch-rate calculator factors all multipliers — you can input the throw and see your exact success probability before pressing.

Is Catch Rate the same as in the main-series mons games?

Mostly yes — but the game has unique mechanics around catching, raids, and PvP that change how Catch Rate works compared to the main-series games. See the full explanation above for GO-specific details.
