01 · FULL EXPLANATION

In PvP each player gets two shields per battle. A skilled opponent times each shield to block your strongest charge move. Baiting tricks them into shielding a cheap, low-damage move instead.

Example: Azumarill with Ice Beam (low energy + low damage = bait) and Hydro Pump (high damage = closer). Throw Ice Beam first — opponent shields it — then Hydro Pump untouched.

Counter-baiting requires move-pool knowledge. Hundo Hunter's PvP team-builder annotates which moves are bait vs nuke for every species.

EX · IN-CONTEXT EXAMPLES
EXAMPLE 1

Azumarill: bait shield with Ice Beam (55 energy, low damage), follow with Hydro Pump (75 energy, big damage) untouched.

EXAMPLE 2

Trevenant: Seed Bomb bait into Shadow Ball is the canonical Great League shield-bait combo.
