01 · FULL EXPLANATION

Shiny Pokémon are alternate-colored variants of regular species. They share base stats and movesets — only the visual is different. A small sparkle (✦) icon flags them on the catch screen and in your collection.

The base wild shiny rate is roughly 1 / 500 (0.2%). Boosted rates: Community Day brings ~1 / 25, Spotlight Hour ~1 / 125, raids ~1 / 20 for most legendary bosses, eggs and research ~1 / 64 — all approximate.

Shiny status is independent of IV roll. You can absolutely catch a shiny hundo — it's just the product of two independent rare events (~1 / 4096 × 1 / 500 = 1 / 2 048 000 in the wild).
