How to pick raid counters in-game

Raid efficiency comes from one number — damage-per-second multiplied by survivability. Both depend on type matchup, moveset, and stat product (CP × HP). This tool ranks every candidate in your meta against the boss, surfaces the top six, and explains why a counter scores high so you can decide which one to power up next.

The PoGO damage multipliers

Super-effective: 1.6×. Doubly super-effective: 2.56×. Resisted: 0.625×. Doubly resisted: 0.39×. Weather-boost: another 1.2×. Stack these and a doubly-SE weather-boosted attacker hits for ~3× a neutral attacker. That gap is why typing dominates raw IV.

From counter to squad

Pick the top six by score, confirm each has the right charged-move unlock, and verify level (40+ ideal; level 50 for Master League carry-overs). Build a backup squad of three more in the same type for re-entries — most T5 raids take two squads minimum, plus the revive cycle. The in-app screen pulls these from your real collection so you see exactly which six to bring.

FAQ

How are raid counters ranked in this tool?

Each candidate gets a composite score: meta-tier (S / A+ / A …) × type effectiveness against the boss × movepool quality. A Shadow Mamoswine with Powder Snow + Avalanche scores higher against a Dragon boss than a regular Garchomp with sub-optimal moves. The S / A+ / A bucket comes from cross-referenced community tier lists (Pokebattler, GamePress, TheSilphRoad).

What's the difference between 1.6× and 2.56× damage?

Pokémon GO uses 1.6× for single super-effective and 1.6 × 1.6 = 2.56× for doubly super-effective (when both of the target's types are weak to your attack). Resisted is 0.625×, doubly resisted 0.39×. Doubly super-effective counters are nearly always the right pick for time-to-win.

How many counters do I need to solo a tier 5 raid?

Standard rule: six top-tier counters at level 35+ with matching movesets, plus a backup squad of three more in the same tier. Weather boost extends the soft cap. For mega bosses (T6) and Primal raids, you need ~9 high-IV counters or a coordinated 2-3 player team. Use the in-app raid-counter screen to pull your actual collection rather than a generic list.

Why do my hundos still take longer than the timer suggests?

Tier and movepool matter more than IVs. A 14-attack with the recommended fast + charged move pair (Shadow Bonus / Mega-boost) outperforms a hundo with sub-optimal moves. Build the recommended moveset on each top counter before stocking up on hundos.

Does weather change which counters work?

Yes — boosted-type attacks get a 1.2× damage multiplier AND the attacker is treated as 5 levels higher (CP up ~10 %, HP up ~5 %). Cloudy + a Fighting attacker against a Normal boss is the textbook example. The counter ranking shifts accordingly. Check the in-game weather forecast before locking in your squad.
